Eat well, keep your house tidy, meditate, wax, post on social media, smile, work harder, relax better – the list of societal pressures to ‘improve’ can seem a never-ending battle against things you wish you didn’t have to do. Of course, these pressures ramp up most around New Year. And we all know the most tiresome people are already talking about how their New Year resolutions will counterbalance their (curtailed) indulgence from the festive period… But what’s the point of this blog post? Well, hopefully, to counter some of the anxieties over resolutions, training schemes and diet plans that come pretty punctually about this time of year. Let’s just stop and return to first principle. Nothing drastically changes when the long-hand ticks away from 2018 for the last time. What the turn in time does do, however, is partition one year from the next, which is helpful for a whole host of reasons. We can reflect nostalgically on a second royal wedding and a third royal baby. In the same vein, we can look forward to the year ahead. ‘Look ahead’ not in any emotionally-laden, optimistic or pessimistic terms, but simply place ourselves in the simple slice between the end of one year and the start of the next. New Year is a time to take a moment to pause and notice a transition, to stop and assess plainly where you’re at and, maybe, only if you want, where you want to go. Contrary to the usual pattern, it is a time to push away the outside influences. Why not use the New Year to place the past year aside, catch-up with your present self but not get carried away with any future vision? At Let’sDayOut we want to go against the grain and tell you not what you should do to challenge yourself in the New Year, rather challenge the way you approach the New Year. Then, if you find that what you want to do is to go to more fun, exclusive events with small-groups of like-minded people right across London, then we’re here for you. You can always sign up to the Let’s Day Out mailing list for fresh features and exciting reviews of the latest Days Out in London and we’ll give you the heads up when we launch our brand-new app in January. On our app you’ll be able to find our hand-picked selection of London’s BEST events and match with the cream of the crop attending them.
